foot stay questions

background story (you can skip this part)
i have a foot stay coming apart at the mount point. i believe its an old cinch stay bec the name on it is gone, but it doesnt have any plastic overlays on it either. the nylon strap has ripped out of the mount once before, so i used put the mounting screws through some fresh holes and they are ripping out again. part of the issue is ive lost some length on the strap and i dont believe its long enough anymore. my last crash my foot came out and found something sharp to cut itself on... no bueno.

questions
i'm considering replacing my foot stays, is cinch the way to go or are there better alternatives?
i see there are a couple of products by cinch, the behind the leg strap and the over the foot part. is there a benefit of the over the bridge strap? (i think i have stock)

i need to re-attach the foot pad to the board, from the looks of it 3M 90 is the best way to go. i have 77 and 80 at my house, is there any reason why those wont work or shall i not waste any time and get the 90.

at what point do i need a rope release? the cinch one (since i was on the site) looks like two strips of velcrow that sheer apart. seems hokey, but i also dont want to buy the comptech one. thoughts?

Benton Front Roll Mobe attempts

Here are a few attempts at the front roll mobe...I was only trying to get to the 180 rotation mark, but found I can make it all the way around with not too much effort. I've got to change some timing for the pull for the handle pass, and my axis/balance point, but I think it can be done.

I know, I've still got a long way to go, but, it was fun and I'll keep trying!

gainer and wake roll help...video

any help would be great. the gainer is only at 1 in 10 clean land and ride away, seems to have aroll in it. looking to be more consistent and bigger.

wake roll is a little more duanting, landed 3 and rode away but maybe 1 in 15.

suggestions for either would be great!

Lessons / ride-time in Orlando

Hi ... a couple of weeks ago I posted that I was a newbie in need of help, and travelling from UK to Orlando for a holiday.
I hooked up some lesson time with Geno , but on the day lucked out on the weather .,... it rained, lake got quite choppy, and Geno was off to Korea next day so timing did not work well.

However I had 10 days in Florida, and this forum proved it’s networking ability .... contact made from member HUCKER84, who offered to help me out with some water time while in town.
As it turned out HUCKER84 (aka Jeff Haughey) lives only 10mins from my Hotel !
His house is superbly located ... right on Lake Sheen of the Butler chain lakes, and with a Malibu Wakesetter VLX hanging up in a boat hoist, for me it was a dream set-up.
I tow my boat to local bay and have to contend with 36’ tidal range, water that goes out by more than a mile, limiting when I can get out ...and even then have waves, current & swell to contend with.
I also have to pay equiv of $7.50 a gall for fuel .. but that is another matter

I booked a slot with Jeff, he was ready to roll on the dot at 9am, and we had a great session of water time on the Saturday morning, coupled with loads of patience from him .... in fact it went so well, and benefitted me, I called him on Sat night and booked again for Sunday.
After Jeff made some tuning changes to ski (-ve shim) I felt a significant difference, still a long way to go until my runs finish by choice J ... but certainly my duration between start and crash has improved considerably.
Jeff’s Ski has a UFO rear wing, mach 2.5 front, b-39 Tbar and Evo seat tower, so I‘m hoping I can apply what I learnt on my stock SS Pro ... which should be somewhat tamer.

Arrived back in UK today ... hopefully be trying out what I learnt this weekend.

A very big thank you to Jeff ... a great guy to hook up with in Orlando if somebody is looking for a ride.

hey, i have been jumping for a while now not very high but hope it is comming :smile:

i have a question when i am about to jump i do the "dip" and then its like i am pulling in the rope, like i am pulling me self closer to the boat to make my self go faster and thats doing slack in the line, and that is wrong right ? i should use the boat to drag me up to a jump right?
hope you know what i mean here?

Chad has an old Air Chair he won at the 2009 National's. He brought it out to the lake on Sunday for entertainment purposes. The water was beat up and my tail bone was/is sore as hell but I decided to give it a go anyhow. This ski has a black powdercoated foil assembly. The fusalage is SQUARE. It is pointed in the front and back. The wings are flat and other that being rounded around the edges it's flat on top and bottom. The rear wing looks like the front wing just a little smaller. The seat is plastic. There are no foot beds. The seat belt has a metal buckle.

When I got in it I felt like I was stepping foot into a 77 Pinto. The thing didn't float very well. My butt was over the strut. My knees were less bent than normal. My feet were on a hard slick surface. The belt wouldn't really tighten up quite enough.

When I said go the first thing I noticed was how much more strength was needed to come out of the water. I guess the modern wings make it easier to get up too. Once up I noticed the ski was very quick. I was riding at 24. The ski hummed and clunked. It was heavy on the handle and when the wings broke surface (2 foot chop and 28" of strut) the ski fell out of the sky like a stone in vacuum.

I cut out a little, added a little 'stank' to a jump and was rewarded with about 12" of air. Then a huge SMACK as the board bounced of the water.

Next was a gainer. I landed nose first. Then I thought, "load it on a roll instead" and I landed on my side. I added 2 mph and tossed another gainer. I hucked the hell out of it to make it around but I had too much spin and washed it out. I was going to try again but at this point the water was more like an ocean and I was laughing to hard to think strait.

Need help Identifying a Used/New Board

I have been riding an old Air Chair and recently purchased a Sky Ski on Ebay that is in FANTASTIC condition. I am very excited and anxious to get it out on the water and compare the obvious upgrade to what I have been riding.

That being said I do not know any of the terminology that is used hereand would greatly appreciate some help Identifying exactly what I purchased ie: Tower, T-bar , & fins, for future post references..... I would also like to know if the Ski is compatible for any future upgrades. Thank you for any and all help....

Problems with Comptech shock

Our Comptech shock blew a seal and leaked oil out last season. We sent it to SKYSKI and had it rebuilt. Now it won't hold air pressure and keeps bottoming out. We've tried pumping it up to 180 but it won't hold. Anyone else having/had problems, I don't want to drop $500 for a new one yet. It's a 2007 model on a Pro. Any help would be appreciated.

Foot Position and Seat Height

Hi,

I have done a search on foilforum for the effects of changing the seat high and also the effects on changing the foot position on the board and I haven't found any info that is useful as yet.

Has anyone seen any post on these 2 topics?

For what reason am I asking these questions?
I ride a rock tower skyski with a foiltech setup and I ride with either the 2 biggest skyski shims or all 3 of the skyski under the rear wing all at once. I do this to reduce the lift (negative shimming)

I know from the people that I have spoken to and also on this forum, that this setup is bizarre and impossible to have any lift.

From what I see there doesn't seem to be a lift problem evident. I ride at 20.5 - 21 MPH. The speed in the video is at that speed.

I was in Vegas and rode an Airchair and I was struggling physically to hold it down with the standard setting that Greg the owner had on his set up. I just didn't feel safe or in control, and my back was aching.

We through the 3 skyski shims in to give negative lift and I was comfortable but I noticed a huge performance shift, firstly the amount of drag the foil had in the water and the lack of 'explosion' on a jump or invert out of the water wasn't there anymore. I had to work my legs a lot more in the dip before the jump/invert to get the height. I would say that if I had have more time to have payed with the tuning, I would have taken the smallest shim out and would have just ran the 2 biggest shims (but that is only a guess).

To me looking at the pictures/video, there doesn't seem to be a problem, but I an open to suggestion because I like the ease and pop out of the water when I had no shims.

Shim Q fo beginner

I have a SS Pro ... standard bar & foils. (total beginner)

Just had some lessons while on holiday in Florida ... on 2nd day coach added a 'number 4 ' negative shim, and it seemed to improve considerably my control.
The foil being ridden was set up for competition with much larger wings, no winglets etc.

I am leaving back for UK soon, I would like to fabricate a similar shim back home ... anybody know what is the effective thickness that a number 4 puts in at rear of wing ?
i.e. is it 1/8 at front and 1/4 at rear giving a 1/8 effective wedge.
No idea what the actual numbers would be, anybody know ?

Typical Dates of All US Fly-Ins

We are in the works of picking a date for a Canadian Fly-in for 2011 and we want to be sure (if possible) not to conflict with any other US fly-in dates. Not sure if this is an unreason goal or not. Please feel free to post the 'typical dates' of your fly-in.

We will be annnouncing a date in the next couple of weeks. To the best of my knowledge there hasn't been a Canadian Fly-in (at least in Alberta) for 10 years .... it's time. We 'unofficially' have 20-25 riders from our little group alone. We promise to try make this a very attractive fly-in to attend. More info will be provided at a later date.
