I have one of the KW Tower Releases. It works great. I even had KW change something on it for me so it would work better with my Titan tower. They were great to work with.

Look into a group buy maybe....?? Doesn't look like there would be a problem if it was mounted to the tower. I can't see how it wouldn't release... Let me know how the testing goes - if it works I will have to get one... Thanks for doing the research Brent!!
GREAT IDEA Brent! Maybe some members from this forum can brainstorm and discuss ideas to make something like this happen. Looks like a safe, affordable option for a manual release. If there is the possibility of a group buy, count me in for two releases......Marty

That looks pretty cool but I do like the price point of Brents setup a little better.. Brent, I wonder how many we would have to buy to get these babies to be more like $50.?.? =)

Previous pics did not work together.

I have something even better in the works and for under $75!!

I'll post more when I am sure they will work together and have options for all the towers.

So here is the new tower mount and release. I am looking for a thicker version of the tower mount as the one below would require you to double stack two of them for enough strength. Combined price is ~$60 with shipping

The one shown in http://www.boarditup.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=350 is a lot like Cliff Woodman's. We used it during the Ga. Mountain Flyin and it is VERY simple, yet easy to use and effective. He also has the realease string run through the tubing of his tower so it is out of the way when not needed. I thought it would get bound up in the corners of the tower, but when we used it, it was so simple and effective. Also, it worked with anyone's rope without having to keep up with or swap out the expensive, heavy clevis used for the comptech release ($37).

I have no doubt that that one would work great but still to pricey for me. I am looking for something under $75

Sorry, I was reading too quickly and missed that. A VERY cheap option would be a sharp knife. Cut it right at the knot to release and then tie a new knot when the rope is retrieved. Kind of a smart a$$ answer, but would probably work pretty well when you think about it. But in all seriousness, I would love to have a cheap option for this too. It is always great to have one for people learning fronts and 3's but that doesn't happen enough (at least in my boat) to spend hundred os dollars.

It's certainly a cost effective means of getting the job done.
I would also be concerned that the pin could bind up when there is a lot of tension, making it hard to release. Maybe There's something I don't see from the picture.
This would be OK if the release is pulled when a trick is going bad and you are still in the air. If you got wrapped up and pulled through the water the line could easily have 400 lb or more tension.
