Yep, I've got an 8 in from Harbor Freight, only problem I've had is with their pads. They are cheap, but they aren't round, what happens is you feel a lot of vibration and it takes a while. When you turn the buffer off you realize that you were only using a tiny part of the pad.

I saw they had an 8 inch too. Thanks for the heads up on the pads. Both spin at 3400 rpm the 6 has a 1/2 hp and the 8 has a 3/4. Just looking to touch up wings. I wonder is the 1/2 hp is enough!

Personally I'd go with the 3/4hp. I tried a 1/2hp 6", but it stops so often, it's just a pain. So then I upgraded to a 3/4hp. The 3/4hp 8" will still stop, but you can put alot more pressure on it before that happens. If you can afford the extra $$$, you'll be alot happier in the long run I think.

I used a Bench Grinder/polisher for years. Then I talked to some one who helpes polish the nice shiney tanker trucks you see on the roads. After talking to him I decide to get a Profesional handheld polisher with a variable speed adjustment on it. It was the best thing I ever did. I found out that all the dreaded black residue was caused by heat. With the variable speed (I run it ar 1800rpm) I can almost eliminate the heat and only use Mothers to polish. If the foil gets to bad I'll take some 1500-2000 wet sand paper then polish it out with Mothers and the hand held. Everybody is different and has there own way of doing it, but I find this to be the best for me.

Thanks guys. I have a variable speed handheld (HF) polisher. I am thinking the bench would be much easier as you can hold the wing to the polisher rather then the polisher to the wing!

Good Lord!.... $500 bucks! Wow. I have a 20% coupon for HF and I think the 3/4 is $70. Yea, I know HF is known for use it once China tools.... But I could buy a bunch of back ups and still have money to feed my family for a week!

3/4 hp isn't enough in my book. I buy stuff at HF all the time. But couldn't be happy using the 3/4 hp buffer. Look up "1 hp bench buffer" on Ebay. There are several for under $250.

I've seen a couple guys using the variable speed hand help polishers. Haven't tried the HF version yet but I may very well give it a shot.

    Bench Polisher

I made a template out of 1''x1'' angle stock and tapped it the same centers as my wings , you can put it in the vice
to hold the wings secure and it worked pretty good with the hand held variable speed polisher. Then i bought the 8''
bench buffer and hardly ever use the hand held anymore. I got the stand too, so you can set up anywhere in the shop.

Anno is looking better and better. I'm real glad that I don't have to use my buffer very often, it is mostly used to sharpen lawn more blades which make boat gas $$.
