Hi ! I have read the posts with interest on ear popping/concussions etc.....I am new to this sport and just now flying above the water (I understand now the comments about "addiction" !! :))...next will be trying some jumps...

I am hoping I can ask some advice as I look for a helmet..?

    1. Is brand purely personal preference/fit? (I see Bern, Gath, Shred Ready, Protech...not sure whom else I should consider?)..
    2. Does it need to/should it have "hard" "ear" protection? (e.g. what I think is called a Full cut vs a half-cut)
    3. Do the softer ear pads e.g. Shred-ready can cans, protect the ears at all or just give you music :)?
    4. Composite vs plastic...price is not an issue at these amounts...I would rather be protected...is one better than another?
    5. Any other considerations?

add to your list the helmet Cinch sells as well, it has the soft ear flaps, adjustable helmet and overall seems to be a good deal too.

I have used the Cinch, Protech and now ride with a Shred-Ready and they all protect your head equally as well as the other. The fit and comfort is definitely different between those three. The shred ready fits me much better than the other two did and it is very light compared to the Cinch but weight is similar to the Protech.

Hard or soft ear protection (either one) should be all you need because you're trying to prevent the pressure from the water blowing your ear drums on a side splat and either will do this.

Composite Vs Plastic? Cant truthfully answer that as I don't know if the added strength is needed for our sport.

I did one good ear slap, parked the boat and went on a wild goose chase until I found one. Only one I could find was a protech and have no regrets, it has soft ear protection, takes a bit to get used to in the water, but now I don't nice. Also, by buddy let me try his bare foot neck brace, I have one coming from SS, you don't even feel it on, and why not have some extra protection...

Yep that is it. Lonnie's looks good too, but I never tried it. The SS one I had in fit like a glove and lik I said, once it clipped on, you forgot it was there.
