I have always wanted to have a super bright yellow tbar (phonebook yellow) and that would not be possible with ano. I know the look I am going for would only be possible if I painted one using a high grade automotive paint and wet sanded it to a mirror finish. I have heard from 1st generation foilers that the old Airchair tbars (that were painted black) only rode better after they were stripped and polished . From what I understand the old painted tbars were actually powder coated to hide the flaws of the casting process. I also prefer a rounder leading edge vs sharper so I don't think I would have an issue tuning it.

I have talked to a few people about this and I can't find anyone that really knows how painting one would effect the ride. Any insight or advice would be appreciated.

I would think it would work fine... for awhile. The problem with painting/powdercoating/etc wings or t-bars is that over time, the leading edges will chip with it moving in water all the time. I once hard ano'd a t-bar, and even that had problems after a few years which required me to sand the leading edge to get rid of the chipping. With those coatings being thicker, it's going to be hard to keep the leading edges pristine.

But it should at least work for awhile. And worst thing that would happen is you strip it off down the road and re-polish it.
